Mohawk Mine, Fishing on the Lower Lamar River 9/7/04

After a quick bite to eat and some coffee the next morning we took a quick exploratory trip to the Mohawk mine just south Cooke city MT.

Four wheel drive is pretty much necessary.

This is a little distorted but it pretty much depicts the scene. A mine that is right on the bank of a creek.

Woody creek. I didn't notice any fish in it.

Raspberries were still out.

We passed the Cooke city police convention on the way to the Park for some fishing.

We drove up to the confluence of the Yellowstone & Gardner Rivers.

Looking down at the Yellowstone River. Notice the bridge spanning the river. Big water.

Hiking down to the Lamar we passed a fellow with a fly rod and asked him how he had done. He said somewhat disgustingly "Awe ain't no fish down there" Jim and I cast each other a grin and wished the guy better luck.

This is a view down where the two rivers come together.

A nice rainbow / cutthroat hybrid came to an Olive and Black Wholly Bugger.

Another nice fish... I think Jim was scaling a cliff at this time.

After this next one I thought about the poor guy we had met on the walk in.

Back to the water...

Buggers for dinner...

The Lower Lamar River. Again to get a size perspective notice the two people attempting to cross on the right.

A bright and quite feisty rainbow goes back to the water.

Jim & I head for the Upper Lamar river for the evening bite...
