Yellowstone Lamar River Canyon 9/6/04

Its nice to wake up in the morning to find moose in your back of your cabin.

Looking down at the Lamar River canyon. From up on the ridge it looks a lot smaller in these photos. You could only cross in one place via jumping from boulder to boulder at this water level and much too swift to wade across.

I'm going to start searching with a grey ostrich herl and mallard dry fly.

Hook - Size 14-18 Dry Fly

Thread - 8/0 white colored brown

Body - 2 or 3 Ostrich herl fibers from feather duster.

Tail - White fine paint brush bristles striped with perm. felt pen.

Wings - Tan mallard

Hackle - Brown & Grizzly

The fly did very well and caught a few nice fish before being shredded.

Another fine Yellowstone Cutthroat.

Another photo. Not bad size and a lot spunkier then the trout out of the meadow water.

This fish falls for a mayfly halo emerger.

A Caddis case.

A take.

The fly. Foam wing something or other.

Another.

Crystals lay among the rocks.

A shot through the water.

Another interesting shot.

Going for the net.

Bill with yet another Yellowstone Cutthroat.

This appeared to me to be a Cutt/Bow but the spotting was profuse with what seemed to be smaller spots. This reminded me somewhat of our coastal cutthroat that we have out on the coast of Washington in my home waters.

Another goes back to the water.

Amethyst crystals embedded on some boulders. I'm always amazed at the geology of this area.

Hold on fella I'll get you back in the water in a second.

These guy's are often hard to get a photo of but here is a nice profile.

Go to the next day...
