Yellowstone National Park Trip 8/2003
Slough Creek Tue. 8/26/03 AM.
|
I awoke and hit the trail up to the canyon at 5:30 AM. I was on a mission for pocket water, rock jumping, boulder scrambling pocket water. Although it has been a drought year at that altitude the air is cold and crisp and almost stings the nose. Cold enough to see your breath, then next thing you know the sun pops over the horizon your stripping off your jacket off. I tied on a version of Gary LaFontaine's Mohawk and right away was catching fish. I used a number of flies including The Puffhead, Halo Emerger, The Mohawk, Olive Bead head Hairs Ear, and Olive Stimulator. All did well but the Puffhead and Mohawk worked the best of all of the flies I tried that morning. |

Slough Creek canyon between the campground and first meadow.

As the sun just peeks over the ridge an Orange & Yellow size 10 Mohawk get this cutt.

Olive bead head gets this one.

The Puffhead brings this one in.

I caught several trout just below the cliff you see in this picture.

Even though this one was small I couldn't help getting a photo of the gorgeous colors on this fish.

I see you.

Swirl in the water and another is on.

A beautiful Yellowstone Cutthroat falls for the Puffhead.

On the trail back to camp.

*If you like the photos check back later and I will have them link to larger photos. Sometimes these small pictures just don't do the photograph justice.
