Yellowstone National Park Trip 8/2003

Lamar & Slough Creek

Feathers, Hair, Crescents, Coffee, no better a way to start the day.

After some coffee at camp we started out the day on the Lamar River fishing the fast water in the canyon.

*One of the reasons I really like fishing the Canyon on both the Lamar River & Slough creek is the fact that later in the summer the fish are much more lively then in the slow water. It seemed like when I caught some of the larger trout out of the slower meandering water that the trout seemed more sluggish and didn't put up much of a fight. My camp neighbor also commented on this. Also an added bonus is that you will get plenty of exercise and encounter less people.

Heading down to the river.

Yellowstone Cutthroat.

Ditto.

Right after a 5 minute thunder & hail shower the sun came back out and we were on the river again. One other plus about the canyon is that you can hide under a boulder when that happens.

You also encounter tail dancing rainbows.

Pools, pockets, under the foam are all places you will find trout.

Cutthroat.

Did I mention you will get your exercise.

And more cutthroat.

A tree grows out of the middle of a boulder.

Another one of the locals.

Just a shadow of myself.

Evening at Slough creek canyon.

This is a view looking south toward the slough creek campground.

I didn't have a lot of time left before dark so it was rapid fire with the "Puffhead". An example of a typical victim just before release.

The park has a great population of elk which the bears, and wolves take advantage of.

*If you like the photos check back later and I will have them link to larger photos. Sometimes these small pictures just don't do the photograph justice.
