Test Fly's 8-9-03
|
I've tied up some test flies for use on the Quinault. I always seem to have to add a split shot to get the flies down. I didn't have any cones to use so I decided to wrap some lead free wire around for the head and coat it with black fingernail polish. I hope this does the trick. I'll be testing these tomorrow. I thought it might be fun to post some test flies along with the results here on this page. If any of you would like to participate send a photo & results of your test flies to: ME and I'll post it. Might be fun. Just click Here and let me know. |

Test 1 Results - I fished this fly for about an hour and caught a few rainbows. It seemed to be a little slow. I would like to try making the head on these flies a different color. Perhaps the fish aren't so keen on the black head. The flies seemed to sink pretty well and get to where the fish are alright but the muddlers tied with just weight under the body and a split shot added to the leader got better results. It could have been just the way the bite was going that day but I'm back to the tying table. |
