Discovery Lake - Olympic Mountains - WA
Those with slow connections please be patient while the pictures load... they are worth the wait.

This is the view on the short hike it takes to get to the lake. A beautiful July day in the Olympics.

Flowers were in bloom all around. Here is a Tiger Lily also known as Columbia Lily.

I couldn't resist taking a few more flower pictures on the way. This is an Avalanche Lily.

Discovery Lake & Bear grass bloom looking south back toward the trail.

Discovery Lake looking toward the North.

With the bright sun of mid-day & low clear water the fishing was tough but I did manage to pull in this nice fighting Cutthroat / Rainbow hybrid. This beautifully colored fish was promptly returned to fight again. Click on the fish to see what caught it. In the past some people have really abused this very small mountain fishery by killing all that they catch. I encourage everyone to give the gift of fish to the next angler in hopes that he does the same so that I may again do the same. This is one of those secret little places that not many know of. Those of you in the area that would like to see this gem of a tarn and do a little fishing can contact me at wwp@tss.net You just have to promise to respect its beauty and leave no trace that you ever visited. |

Another shot.
