Yellowstone National Park Trip 8/2003

Cooke City MT, Thursday 8/28/03 A trip to the mountains

We decided to take a break from fishing and do some 4x4 in the mountains and explore the old cabins and mines in the area around Cooke city MT.

Cooke City MT. This is a view looking down on the little town from nearby Daisy Pass rd. This was the only town in the area before Yellowstone was turned into a Park in 1872.

Home for the night.

The road behind Cooke city. Somewhere around Lulu Pass. 9712 ft.

A chimney, cellar and foundation stones are the only thing left at this ruin.

Old dumps around some of the ruins.

Christina looks at some mine ruins.

Mining ruins.

Another view.

Just playing.

An old miners cabin.

Another view around Lulu pass.

Oh, the stories this old cabin could tell.

The only thing that was living there was this cricket.

This is Gold Dust mine.

Gold Dust mine.

A view from atop Gold Dust mine.

Playing around with the new camera.

Some of these old structures are really big.

These buckets appeared to be cabled up the side of the mountain from the Gold Dust mine to the Homestake mine.

Old fashioned square nails.

I believe these are called grouseberry.

A small alpine pond that was home to numerous swimming bugs.

We saw moose on the way out.

More moose.
