Martin's Parachute & Paraloop Swap

Swap hosted by Martin Westbeek, Photos & by Bill P.

Foam Face Emerger

Hook - Size 14 to 18 dry fly

Thread - White 6/0

Body - Light Olive Hairs Ear or Antron

Tail or Tailing Shuck - White Antron

Post/Head - Tan Craft Foam

Hackle - Barred Ginger or Brown, Cree

Thorax - Dark Olive Hairs Ear or Antron

Start your thread and bring it back to the bend of the hook.

Tie in a tail of antron almost the length of the hook.

Dub a coarse body of hairs hair dubbing to about 1/3 of the hook length.

Tie on a foam post as you would a regular parachute style pattern and a hackle at the bottom of the post facing to the rear as shown.

Now wrap the hackle around the base of the foam post working your way up the post a bit and back down. Secure the hackle at the bottom and trim off.

*Note, I have several versions of this fly. Sometimes at this step I will spin the hackle in the thread with the Norvise making the hackle both stronger and creating a sort of a paraloop look to the hackle after being wrapped onto the post.

Now dub in a darker thorax as shown above.

Now bend the whole foam post forward and tie it down as shown. Whip finish and your done.
