Tim, Bill, Jim Montana Trip 7-29-06
Mulherin Creek & Rock Creek
Before leaving the Park we had to stop at boiling river for a soak.
This is one of the few places you can enjoy a hot spring soak inside Yellowstone N.P.
Tim at boiling river.
This super hot water dumps into the cold water of the Gardner river making it just the right temp.
The lady at the bakery in Cooke city was kind enough to make us a custard pie for breakfast.
|
We stopped to explore Mulherin creek which is a small creek that feeds into the Yellowstone river just outside the park in what is known as paradise valley. Actually Mulherin creek and Cinnabar creek converge to make this section of stream as best we could tell from the map. This was combat fishing for sure. As this photo shows a snag lurks everywhere you turn and this made fishing even more challenging. |
These feisty rainbows were beautifully colored.
We caught a fish in nearly every little hole we cast to.
This little creek ended up being a gem.
|
At one point a small channel leaves the main body of water to make a small ditch no more then a couple of feet wide. I spotted what looked to be a nice size trout from the road above and quickly snuck down and made a cast to catch this beauty. Tim ran down and snapped photos of this Yellowstone cutthroat for me. |
Another look at the Montana ditch trout.
|
Tim and I made our way through the brush to the main section of water and I quickly hooked a nice size cutthroat that in turn quickly wrapped my line around a snag and as I was trying to free the trout from the snag Tim was yelling "Go in Bill, Go in!" I wanted to keep my shoes dry... Go in, go for it Bill... don't lose it! OK! ok, but I've got to take my shoes off... as I scramble to get my shoes off Tim is yelling Go! Go! finally I jump in the water and free the line from the snag by breaking the limb to find that the fish was actually still on... whew! That was fun. Tim took this picture and I can swear that the fish is grinning at us. |
We made a rapid pull over and cast the line at this unknown creek beside the raod.
The famous blue ribbon stream Rock creek Montana.
After getting around all of the private property we found a nice stretch of river.
Cutthroat and a few brown trout pecked at our lines.
A pano of Rock creek.
More cutt's.
Tim with yet another trophy brown trout.
Pretty spots.
Camp along rock creek.
Jim cleans out all of the various beverage containers.
A suspension bridge over the river.
And another fishing trip comes to a close.
